Congratulations WhitWalker!!

I summited Whitney for the first time on 8/15/07 and met two guys on the trail, who suggested I try Rainier. I was easily talked into it and decided yesterday that I am going to go for it next summer with RMI. If you're reading this Rick, thanks for the friendly suggestion. I'm very much looking forward to the experience.

Congratulations on your safe and successful climb!

The route you describe going underneath Disappointment Cleaver was kicked in about one month ago. The reason they did that is the glaciers were so broken up above the Cleaver there was nowhere to go anymore without getting blocked by crevasses. This is the first time since the early 80s that the route has gone in the direction you went.

Mt. Rainier is an amazing mountain. I'm glad to hear you had a chance to see it in all its glory.

Big time congratulations!!! That is a great accomplishment! Sounds like you got lucky with the weather. I did a training hike to C-Muir last May to help prepare for Whitney in June. The views up to C-Muir were breathtaking; I can only imagine the views up to the summit.

I hope to climb Rainier next spring/summer.

Again, congrats!

I just uploaded the pictures from my Rainier climb.

I was very lucky with good weather. A couple of days prior nobody made the summit. Also, it looks like Whitney had some nasty conditions around the same time.

Happy climbing.
