Are dogs allowed at the portal campsites or on the trail to lone pine lake?

Dogs ARE allowed at the Portal campsites and on the trail to Lone Pine Lake. The hounds smile must be under leash control (leash not more than 6 feet long) according to posted general National Forest rules. Dogs are to be tethered in the campgrounds as well so that they don't bug other campers, etc.

I believe dogs are allowed all the way to Trail Camp and maybe the National Park Boundary. At least, when I did Whitney a few years back, a RANGER had his very nice dog with him when he passed through Trail Camp.

Dogs are allowed on National Forest trails but not on National Park trails. That is why there is a sign at Trail Crest saying "Pets and Firearms Prohibited" on the Sequoia NP side.
