Anyone else notice? Must have. Anyway, my eagle-eyed wife spotted the frame a couple weeks ago, and as we were Tivo'ing, we backed up and took a look. Confirmed it when we were there this past week.

It's in the Kia commercial with the Kia's driving around with gigantic push-pins on top. There's a frame where a Kia is sitting in front of a lake, with snow drapped mountains in the background, then the next frame shows a Kia crossing an intersection at a signal.

That's the signal in Lone Pine, looking north (Kia heading west). You can see the flying trout sign over the hardware store on the right, and the "Lone Pine" banners hanging from the streetlights.

Just thought I'd share.

Yeah, two years back when they were showing "How The West Was Won" in 3-strip Cinerama format in LA (with John Wayne's widow in attendance), there was one scene where I said to my friends, "Hey, I know that area. That's Mt. Whitney in the background..."

At this very moment I am sitting at the Kia headquarters & wishing I was at Lone Pine.

On SportsCenter yesterday, there was a Vitamin Water commercial with Kasey Kahne (#19 NASCAR)in the Alabama Hills with yaks and sherpas. You could see the Whit and LPP. Quite funny.

+@ti2d, I saw that too. They say it is the Himalaya. The one that I think is really funny though is a print ad - for Ford I think. The truck is in the foreground with Whitney in back but they had the image reversed and the needles are on the right of Whitney.

WhitRat - Advertisers reverse photos all the time, usually in print media. They want the vehicle or model or whatever facing one way or the other, usually because of which side of the magazine it is on.

There is a California 3rd grade social studies book that has the image reversed like that. I had to explain to a bunch of those kids that I have a bunch of pictures and around 50 dvd movies that show that wasn't quite right. wink

The Alabama Hills and Whitney is one of the most filmed areas on the planet. A few commercials:
