Bumping this up in hopes that there will be some input in response to Jim F's comments/question. Seems reasonable to leave a used wag bag while ascending, to be retrieved on the descent. Could it be that some of the wag bags being reported as found by some hikers are a result of this sort of thing, at least in some of the cases?

sorry I missed Jim's question earlier

not sure what etiquette is - but:
if you stash your wag bag after use with intent to retrieve on the way down - what happens if you need to do #2 a number 2 times. although I can sure understand not wanting to carry the whole way up if you know you are returning the same way.

the bags we found at the notch and summit we felt were clearly left w/o intent to haul down. twice at the summit - what would you be coming down from? and at the notch - noone fit the timing of summiting ahead of us and still behind us descending.

maybe if you do "stash" your bag while ascending - leave a note to advise of intent of collecting on the way back. guess I will wait for others to chime in.
