How does one get from Whitney Portal (leave car for exit) to the Cottonwood Lakes trailhead? (July 5th)

If you cannot take two vehicles, you are pretty much on your own to negotiate transportation when you get there. There have been recent reports that several shuttle services that used to be in the area are no longer operating. Maybe you can negotiate with somebody staying in one of the Portal campgrounds to drive you over to Horseshoe Meadow.

I'm in need of a shuttle to the same area from the Portal for June 27 or 28 (Haven't decided which yet - I wanted to be home for the 4th). So, if you can reschedule perhaps that would work. If not, High Sierra Transportation 1-760-258-6060 offers a shuttle for $120 which is good for up to 5 people. If you can find more people to go with you, then the price is obviously less. Other then hitchhiking, I don't know what other options there are, although VersatileFred's idea sounds like it has potential. Good luck!

We have two threads going in parallel. See Getting a Ride to Cottonwood, but please use this thread.

As I alluded to earlier, several nearby options are no longer available and High Sierra appears to be the only service running.

My solution to the problem of getting around in the area was to convince my wife and children, who were not hiking, that Lone Pine and the surrounding area were very good places to visit and look around. A variation of this with family, friends or acquaintances may work once.
