I am looking for transportation from Whitney Portal to Tuolumne around August 30th, for 2 people. Wilder House discontinued this service. Does anyone have other suggestions? We've contacted High Sierra Transportation, and are awaiting a response. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you mean Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite? Have you already looked at the CREST and YARTS bus routes?

Yes, I do mean Tuolumne Meadows/Campground/Trailhead area in Yosemite N.P. I don't think YARTS covers the Whitney Portal/Lone Pine area. I'll investigate further, though. Thanks.

YARTS from TM to Lee Vining or Mammoth
CREST from there to Bishop
Overnight in Bishop at small motel near bus station/trailer park.
CREST Bishop to Lone Pine
Thumb WP to Lone Pine

Maybe the schedule is better that the time I did this 5 years ago.
Not very time efficient.

Plus, make sure the bus is running on the day you're looking at.....I did this journey last year, and found out on a Sat morning while waiting for the bus in Lone Pine that the bus schedule they gave me over the phone was only valid Monday through Friday. Because of light weekend travel, they decided to halt the Sat service---with no notice or anything.....I ended up hitching a ride to Mammoth. Not the way I planned it, but it turned out all right. From Mammoth, I hopped on YARTS to Yosemite Valley.

YARTS goes to the "Shilo Inn" in Mammoth Lakes. CREST goes to "McDonalds" in Mammoth Lakes (from Lone Pine). McDonalds is next to the Shilo Inn. (Sounds like a good place to transfer in my book).

I don't know if that works out best, but at least there is only one transfer. If you stay in Bishop, you have to make a second transfer to get up to Lee Vining before transfering to YARTS.
