A dayhike this Thursday (June 7) is reserved. I am contemplating the mountaineer's route, vice the trail. Does any one know the curent conditions? Snow depths? I would rather not drag my snow shoes along if not needed.
Also, it's my understanding that a permit is now needed for the Moutaineer's Route. If so, I would give away two main trail permits (upon my purchase of MR permit)June 6 A.M.

Recent reports of the Mountaineers Route have stated that most groups are leaving all the snow gear home.

Reports from the main trail still suggest crampons and Ice axe can be useful while on the switchbacks if it is early or late when they would still be icy. Some are taking the snow gear but not actually using them.

You will need to get a day hiking permit if you go up the MR.

Thank you very much for the info & pics. Looks like no problem. Quite a difference from my near successful ascent this January.
