Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Fishing near Onion Valley?

Anyone know how the fishing is at Robinson Lake or Golden Trout lake? We have a group heading for Williamson and possibly Tyndall next weekend via Shep pass (thanks Moose Tracks for the great TR and awesome photos!). We are planning on going up to Onion Valley early on Friday for a warmup hike and possibly fishing one of the nearby lakes, before starting the Shep pass trail on Sat. Any recommendations on fishing in the area?

The word that I've heard from some fisherman I've talked to in the Onion Valley area (I'm not one.), head up to the Golden Trout Lakes.

Here are some additional photos that you can look at to get an idea of which area provides "better" scenery. (I prefer the Golden Trout Lakes area from that perspective.)

Thanks for the info and the beautiful pictures. I agree Golden Trout looks more scenic. If we get up there early enough I think we'll try and throw a couple lines in, fresh trout beats freeze dried food anyday.
