Hello Everyone
I want to summit Split Mountain around August 7-9, but don't have a four-wheel drive vehicle to make the drive on McMurray Road. Does anybody know anyone or a shuttle service that would take me there and pick me up? I am willing to pay because I here you need a lot of clearance, especially on the way back.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
GLuke

You can hike cross country to Red Lake from the Taboose trailhead. Its about a mile-mile and a half of sagebrush walking. The Red Lake trail is on the north side of the creek. It's shown on the south side on the 15' maps.

There is a shuttle service in Independance called Wilderhouse. their phone:888-313-0151

According to another thread, Wilderhouse is gone.

Thanks Pablo. I'll consider this as an option. Have you done the mile and a half trek before? Do you have to cross the creek in order to get over the trailhead? If you could let me know sometime and anything else that might be helpful, that would be great.
I've looked into doing the Taboose Creek trail in order to get to Split Mountain, but it's two days hiking and a lot of elevation gain versus the six via Red Lake.
Thanks for responding, I appreciate all your help!

Pablo,
I looked on my topo map and it looks like the bushwacking from Taboose Creek Trailhead to Red Lake Trailhead is more like 3 miles. And an elevation gail of 1,000 feet. I'll look into other modes of transportation, but I'll keep this in mind.
Thanks again,
Greg Lukenbill a.k.a. GLuke

Yes, I've done the hike. I got to Red Lake in one day hike from the Taboose trailhead, with an overnight pack.
