I'm one quarter Czech. My fathers mother was born in Prague. Her maiden name was Luptak. She was one amazing woman. She was physically the strongest and hardest working person I have ever known. She married my grandfather at age 13 and had my father at 14.She was mid wife to most of her mother's 8 children before leaving the farm in Texas at age 14 with her twins. My grandparents worked their way to Calif. They picked cotton in Oklahoma amongst other hard farm labor. They say my Czech grandmother could out pick any man in the cotton fields. I am proud of my good Czech stock.

Your story sounds familiar. My dad (who is 100% Czech) is one of the hardest working men I have ever known. All of my family that is still over there (even one of my sisters who lives in Zlin) are all tough as ever!

I usually go by manguera but I have found that more often than not it is already taken. Don't remember if it was taken on the board or not, but went with hoser anyway. The 23 is a nod to the late Robert Anton Wilson and the Illuminatus! Trilogy.

When I first started getting internet and email accounts, I tried a number of the nicknames that I have been called, and all were taken. So I chose lambertiana. One of my hobbies is dendrology, and one of my favorite trees is pinus lambertiana, more commonly known as sugar pine.

YES! The last time I flew all the way to FLA just for the weekend to watch TN beat their butts in the playoffs (Dec 2001).

Was that the year that it rained about 6" on the field while playing against you guys and we got our butts whooped? I cannot recall if that was '95 or '96. I was in college during those years and would drive to Knoxville for most of our home games (a 5 hour drive from where I was in school in KY). I guess that's why I don't mind the 4 hour drive to Lone Pine...I've already been "trained." PS ~ GO VOLS! (There's also another G8R on this BB that I know of - B.J. where are you?)

Also, yes I recall the outcome of the playoffs in '01. I was thinking we were on our way to the Rose Bowl. What a disappointing ending. I think some of my orange blood drained from my body that year.

In the days before I got a season pass, I used to carcamp in Long Valley or in the hills nearby so I could afford lift tickets. Until a few years ago, I backpacked every weekend. I spend every weekend in the mountains or desert. Looking back at my records, I’ve only been home or out of state (non-outdoor-related or hiked only 1 day locally) 8 weekends since 1997. So I’m a nymph.

Want to cook out, but you don't have any charcoal for the grill? Just ran out of propane?

Why not try moose nuggets for fuel?

Seventh graders in Jim Lepley's social studies class at Goldenview Elementary took the lessons they learned in the classroom outside to the grill. They did this to see if cultures from the past had the right idea when they used animal dung to cook their food.

The many hot dogs cooking on the classroom's grill seemed to show Alaska has another natural fuel that is plentiful throughout the state.

"Instead of having to sit in the classroom and listen to me, or do some stupid worksheet, they get to come out here, have something--eat something, if they want to, cooked over an animal dung fire," said Lepley.

This is the 10th year Lepley's social studies class has grilled out using moose nuggets for fuel.
