Some people pick their display names from pubications by famous authors. (Sierra Sam, Sierra Stryder, etc) I picked mine from a short story by a soon to be very well know female climber.
How'd you get your's?

markJWPCP...Joint Water Pollution Control Plant...In Carson where I work for los Angeles County Sanitation Districts... It's a waste water plant so keep flushing and I'll keep my job. If LA County ever went to wag bags I would be out of a job..

Mine represents my passion -- I love California (born and raised first 28 years), and I love to walk/hike on trails anywhere in the state (more so in the mountains). The abbreviated form -- "CaT" -- happened by accident, but is nonetheless appropriate due to our love of cats (we had 6 of them at once for a number of years).

So Richard and Norma changed their handles, and now I'm thinking about it... After my divorce, I wanted to avoid anything "moose" related b/c I thought it really wasn't all that "fem". So in my lame state of mind, all I could come up with was HikerLaura. Hmmm... Now that there's been a reincarnation of the moose character , I'm thinking of changing to "MooseTracks". Any comments?? Suggestions?? -L

A rule of thumb I've heard is you shouldn't pick your own trail name (although forum names aren't necessarily the same). My name is Matt, and one of my friends just started calling me Mattress one day. I count myself lucky, some of their other friends are Tomass (Tom) and Jennytalia (Jenny).

And Mt. Katahdin (Penobscot for "The Greatest Mountain") is the first point of land in the US that catches the morning sunrise. At 5267', it is the highest mountain in Maine; many on this board have climbed it.
Anyone know the corresponding point in the contiguous 48 for sunset? In California? ...Wayne?

Duelmen was the name of the small town in Germany where I lived during my Army days. The 3 is because when I first used the name for email back '95 it was already taken. Hiker Laura, go with what whatever name you feel. But I love to see your pics with the hat! It gives character and puts a proper perspective on any situation.

WARNING: Non-Whitney-related trivia! And Mt. Katahdin (Penobscot for "The Greatest Mountain") is the first point of land in the US that catches the morning sunrise. I recall an old quiz that asks for the northernmost, southernmost, easternmost, and westermost points in the US. Just naming the states they're in, Hawaii wins for southernmost and Alaska wins the rest. Not Maine. (The easternmost point is Pochnoi Point, Semisopochnoi Island, AK, at 179°46'E. The westernmost point is Amatignak Island, AK, at 179°6'W.) However, after a fleeting moment, I realized that Bob R. would not get this wrong. Of course he didn't, because the International Date Line does not follow the 180th meridian. Bob undoubtedly knew that all along. Ya had me goin', Bob!

I might get a cramp if I wrote Rafael Alonso Mendiola De Elias Bonnemaison. In South America we use our maternal last name after the paternal last name. It's so much easier to just write Rafael and few people have that name.

Good one Bruno Since I work on and around computers all day, I used "Giga" in front of my name.
