So, what wonderful things did you experience within a few months after summiting Whitney for the first time?

Let's just say that on Whitney there are bears, and Bruins are indeed bears, and when repeatedly poked in the ribs and thereby awakened, Bruins get very defensive and angry after a long sleep.

Today is a great day for all bears.

Even though I'm a Wolverine, I heartily support all Bruins. Congrats to those boys! Now it'll be our turn to Tromp some Trojans in the RB!

Go Blue!!

After watching my Chicago BEARS last night, it appears they have gone into hibernation. Good news is, I don't live in Chicago, which is way too flat!

Happy New Year!

Danu a very funny sherpa.

HikerLaura, maybe next year's the year for the maize and blue, as well as the powder blue and gold.

And Happy New Year wishes to you, too, Richard, and everyone else, irrespective of whether it's related to the mountains.

OK, OK, I've gotten the call and I'm coming out of retirement to play in the secondary for the ol' Maize 'n Blue. I guess we were a bit blinded by the sun. It makes us schleepy....

(Insert eye roll here)

Yes, yes, back to the mountains already...
pffftttt!

For the record (and I can't stand not taking a topic off-topic), I do hope the the Bruins (Basketball) go on to an undefeated season.

(I grew up in the Wooden era and love UCLA basketball - I just don't care for their football program. I'd also never root against a home team. To me, it's a shame that a mediocre football team had a lucky day, while the other guys seemed to "stink it up," and ruined the chance for another National Championship for an L.A. based team.)

For the record (and fodder for time-passing trail discussion):

December 2nd was not a day of "luck" -- one team did not fumble away a victory, or gain an advantage from a bad officiating call. December 2nd was a day of effort, execution, emotion and desire. On that memorable day, one team played a better football game than the other. Anything else is sour grapes. However, I'll be the first to admit that if the two teams were to play again today, the outcome would likely be different -- but that's why the game is so great. Just give anyone in Boise a call right now ... they'll tell you the same thing.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Most assuredly "for the record" (and a notable record it has remained...), what seems like decades ago (wait, yes it HAS been three decades), after more than a few cold ones, I opined to a friend that "there will never again be an undefeated national champion." The most severe threat was put down in the 1991 National Semi-Final when Duke bested then unbeaten UNLV. I always watch the top 25 poll throughout the year to keep track of how many are left to fall before my alma mater's record, as the last undefeated national champion, escapes unscathed again. Too much parity, too many games, and too tough a tournament nowadays - and so I say again "there'll never again be an undefeated national champion", BruinDave's Bears and their powder blue success thus far notwithstanding. Indiana, 32-0 (and BTW it was those same Bruins who were the victims in the National Semi-Final game that year, as they were also in the season opener in St. Louis in November, 1975), Philadelphia Spectrum, 1976 undefeated national champs, I was there for it all.

Soon enough, the young upstarts from Westwood will fall, and "the record" will be preserved once again. Oil up the fly reel, Dave, and let's start planning for August in the Wasatch (actually the High Uintas).

According to espn.com, they "made history" by doing that last night, which might imply it hasn't been done before.

Then again, they misspelled "dual" in their title to the article ("duel"). I don't know if that was intentional... hmm...
