I was at Whitney Portal on Saturday. As I was leaving, I noticed the cabins perched on the far side of the valley well above Lone Pine Creek. How do people get to these cabins--by road or trail?

There is a section in the book "Mount Whitney: Mountain Lore from the Whitney Store," 2nd Edition, about the cabins, but it isn't clear how the cabins are accessed.
