I'm headed to the MWT over the next week, and I'm wunnerin bout the bear activity. I plan on spendin a night at HSM and then at trail camp. It's my first attempt, and I've got a lot of Q's.
Is H2O available above trail camp, or should I make some before then? I figger on a half gallon for my self from trail camp to the summit and return. Is it cool to leave your gear at trail camp, assend, and pack it up for the trail down? Or is there a bear box to stash it in at trail camp? What are absolute NO-NOs in your cache?
I'm figgerin that this, being my first trip, won't be my last. I'm 47 and I'm just getting back into the fold.

Not a problem, as long as you follow the rules.

Actually, the bears take care of their own water needs, you don't need to worry about that.

(plan no water higher.)

Yup, most do.

Read this discussion board daily before you go, and review what people have been writing in the last week or so. It will save you an education, "the hard way".

g'luck

Be aware that any food, even if you are sitting a few feet away from it and it is in a pack, can be taken in a flash by the steathly mammots at trail camp and elsewhere. I learned the hard way when I turned to speak to someone and by the time I turned back around the critter was dragging a bag of trail mix under a rock. Guard your food at all times and don't leave it at trail camp. We didn't have bear canisters because it was a one day hike. Next time though...
