Scott Jurek, the ultramarathon phenom, plans to hike up to the summit next Wednesday after running in the Badwater Ultramarathon race on July 24-26.

Hi And that would equal the double amputee that did the JMT several years ago to honor his lost friends in Vietnam, didn't say his name but I could tell he wasn't looking for a story, he lived one. Doug

I am crewing for Luis Escobar for the first part of the Badwater race and then have plans to hike up with Scott and friends after the race.

Ah, he is a real guy and not just out for the story. If you meet Scott you will know what I mean.

I, on the other hand, am always looking for a story. Can't help it. It's in my nature. I love telling and hearing them.

Best Regards, Barefoot Ted

PS. If all goes well, we will be heading up the mountain sometime around 11 am Tuesday getting back at around 7ish. Is there a place at the Portal where we can camp for the night?

PSS. I still have the taste of my last Portal Store burger, beer and fries in my mouth. I don't think that I have enjoyed a meal as much as the last one I had at the Portal Store. Hope the grill is still on at 7PM.

Scott is the real deal and a great guy. BTW, Ted give Luis my best in the race. He'll know who Scott M. if you tell him I'm one of the 'dead" guys on the High Desert 50k shirt.

Barefoot Ted - If you get off the mountain at 7:00pm, I believe that you just may miss the cut-off for the last orders for the night at the Portal restautant. I believe this to be around 6:45pm, but I would check at the restaurant before starting the hike. You do not want to miss one of those fabulous burgers by just a few minutes.

Just got back from the Badwater Ultramarathon.

I crewed for Luis Escobar. If you know anything about crewing at Badwater, you know it's a big job and very rewarding, especially if you can successfully get you runner to the finish. We did. He was 9th overall and finished the 135 mile race in around 36 1/2 hours.

I amused and amazed onlookers by running on the pavement in Badwater barefoot. As long as you keep moving (and you have feet like mine), it's no real big deal...just don't stop.

I was going to hike up with Scott Jurek and his crew after the race; however, Scott and his wife Leah decided that the race had taken enough out of him, plus it was already nearly noon with afternoon storms brewing. He came in first place this year for the second time in a row in around 25 1/2 hours.

Scott is a vegan, so when we ordered burgers at the Portal for the crew, we ordered 10 veggie burgers. I had a cheese one. Now, I can't say that it was as good as a REAL hamburger, but it WAS damn good.

Best Regards, Barefoot Ted

PS. A big hello to those whom I met in person for the first time from this list. Can't say I remember all the names, my brain was already taxed to the limit.

One foot at a time. One sole at a time. One hell of a good time.
