My friend and I did a day hike up Mt. Whitney last year. Here is a Panorama photo from the valley below looking up at the mountain range. Enjoy.

Great Picture! It is a great test for the would be hikers to see if they can find the summit.

There also are links to summit panorama shots on Panorama Links .

If you back up a little bit you can get a better perspective on the relative heights of peaks such as Langley, Whitney and Williamson.

Those are awesome shots! They remind me of one of my favorite photographers.

I don't suppose you have a key to which peaks are which, do you? Or do you know where such a thing can be found (a photo of the east side of the southern Sierra with a key to the peaks)? I'm particularly curious about a peak that appears to be almost exactly as high as Whitney but quite a bit to the north -- Split Mountain, maybe? This kind of stuff is probably really obvious to many users of this BB, but I've spent very little time east of the Sierra.

BSquared, Dale Dalrymple has a fabulous annotated panorama of the southern peaks in the Eastern Sierra. You can get to his pano by clicking HERE.

I have now posted NY Butte view with compass bearings.

It will take me a while longer to put labels on peaks and add the stats to my Peaks List Page.

A brief start:
Olancha Pk 201.3
Mt Langley 243.2
Mt Whitney 256.6
Mt Williamson 271.6
Split Mtn 313.6
Mt Inyo 334.2

Hopefully, Wayne will provide corrections when I've posted and given him time.

Dale, that is undoubtedly one of the coolest things I've ever seen: thank you very much! And I'm sure you're right: Wayne will certainly chime in with his usual precision. Oh, wait: it was Wayne who suggested the repost... OK, then. Ah, the Internet is way, way beyond "porn!" wink

btw, the peak I was looking at in the original photo was undoubtedly Williamson, about 272°.
