We'll be climbing from Whitney Portal to summit in one day. Probably will be one of the groups that takes about 18 hours or so.
Anyone know if we absolutely HAVE to take a bear canister, or can we tacit because of our short time on the mountain?

If you are only day hiking you do not need a bear canister, provided that your food is always with you.

Thanks very much for the info AsABat.
Those canisters are darned bulky for the short time it would be used.
