Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone has successfully completed the main trail hike in one day recently (June 7th through today). Most of the previous threads focused more on 2 to 3 day trips and I was wondering if anyone has been able to do it in a day yet.

Also, I understand that the switchbacks are still covered in snow and everyone is taking the chute to trail crest but there have been mixed comments about needing crampons. I will be attempting a day hike in two weeks (sucessfully completed the day trip 2 years ago sans snow) and of course would perfer to keep my pack as light as possible. I realize that I should be prepared for anything but would like honest comments from people who have actually attempted and/or completed the hike recently (last two weeks) on the current snow conditions.

Thanks in advance to everyone

Yes, I ran into three guys who did it Saturday. They left the Portal at 12:00 am and I ran in to them at Outpost Camp on their way out at 9:00 pm.
They had at least a two hour hike back to the Portal so it probably took them 23 hours. It only took us 12 hours round trip from Outpost Camp and we climbed Muir too. If I added 4 more for the trip to and from the Portal it probably would have taken me 14 to 16 hours. So, plan on 14 hours for experienced and strong hikers and up to 24 hours for inexperienced and weaker hikers.

Don’t' forget your crampons and Ice Ax!
