Hi,
Does anybody know of any shuttle services in the Yosemite area in the west. We are doing the John Muir Trail at the end of june and are finding it hard to find anyone in the west to take us from Merced to Yosemite village. We are unable to take the bus from Merced due to the lateness of our arrival. In 2002 we did the high sierra trail and used Skip Wilder, however he is a little too far away therefore too expensive ($700 ish)
Kind Regards

Check Amtrak, unless that is the bus you were talking about. (btw, Amtraks's bus is not the same as any other service)

This page lists links to all the options, which includes YARTS, VIA, Amtrak:

I haven't heard of any shuttles from Merced to Yosemite but if you are getting to Merced late in the day it may be worth considering staying in the town overnight and getting the first YARTS bus the next morning. This leaves the Amtrak station at 7.10 and gets you to Yosemite village about 9.30 for $10. The last one leaves at 5.15pm and arrives about 8pm.

It all depends on your schedule but this might be a little more relaxing than getting to the valley late at night. Also, if you arrive late you will not be able to collect a permit until the morning so getting to the valley at 9.30 is not going to delay your start time by any more than an hour.
