Hi Guys-
Heading up the MR that weekend and many of the guys in the original group bailed. I'll have the permits if anyone needs any for that weekend.

Hi J.Mo
I'm very interested, but you said you're going MR. I thought MR doesn't need any permit only the regular portal trail does.
Would you please clarify for me, but by all mean may I reserve 1 for me now and possible 2?(I have to ask my buddy first)
You can email me the detail at napman9@yahoo.com
Thanks a lot, hope to hear from you soon.

MR does require permits for overnight trips. I am also confused though, because I have a permit for 6 on the same date and the USFS says they only give out 6 reservable permits per day. Sounds like these may be for the main trail.

Thanks Spine for MR info, but now it's down to 6 permits per night? It was more than that last year. I think it was like 25 or something, We camped at trail head last August and there were about that amount on that night!

Spinfxr:

I understand your confusion about the permit. My understanding is that the give 6 permits and each permit is permitted up to 8 individuals. The 6 is not the number of people, but the number of groups.

Feel free to whip me if I am wrong :-)

Randonee, the quota is number of hikers, not number of groups. The main Whitney trail has a quota of 60 overnight permits -- that would NOT be 60 groups.

I am not sure about Spinefixr and J.M. -- I'll bet one enters on the 4th and the other on the 5th. The permit quota goes by date of entry.

Spinefixr and J.M: Exactly which day is your permit to enter?
(Jonathan's is to enter Saturday, June 4.)

Hi Guys-
Just got off the phone with the permit office. Looks as though I might have misunderstood the info I got regarding posting available slots on the forum. The ranger station was very nice and asked that I basically release the permits back to the office for distribution for folks looking for permits those dates. Thanks again, everyone for the weather info and Looking forward to next weekend. Happy Memorial Day.

Cheers-

Jonathan
