I spend a lot of time on this site, but find a lot of my questions relate to general backpacking/hiking. Can anyone recommend other message boards that deal with more general topics?

Richard's board has lots of information about other hiking areas and also a section on tips $ tricks etc.

Summitpost.org is also a good reference site, though it is more devoted to mountaineering and peak bagging.

Beside websites, I would suggest a small investment in a good printed resource. Moutaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, published by the Mountaineers, Seattle Wa is an excellent resource of information.

The discussion forum of the Outdoors Club has a thread on backpacking, as well as others, plus an active discussion of local things:

The High Sierra Topix (www.highsierratopix.com) is another message board that has a lot of backpacking/hiking/fishing related subjects.

Unfortunatley, right now they're experiencing the ill-effects of "hackers" so they're down for a while. You might check that site in a week or two - it's pretty informative.
