If you hike on Mt. Baldy or the surrounding mountains in San Bernardino County, you might be interested to know that the West Valley Search & Rescue team is there to help should you or yours ever become in need of assistance.
Although officially a part of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, the West Valley Search and Rescue team is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization with 501 (c)(3) status. All team members purchase their own equipment and train and respond to emergencies on their own time, volunteering thousands of hours each year to help their community. The life-saving services provided by team members are performed without compensation. Team members are on-call 24 hours, 365 days per year, ready to respond to any type of emergency necessary.
What may come as a surprise to you is that SAR teams in San Bernardino County are NOT financially supported by the county nor other government entity. They are 100% supported by donations and contributions and via fund raising events. Believe it or not!
WVSAR holds two fund raisers every year:
Spring: A 5K/10K Run, 5K Walk, Dog Walk, and "Kiddie K"
Fall: Our annual softball tournament
This year our run is being held on Saturday, April 30th at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga (foothills below Mt. Baldy). The run is USATF sanctioned. So, if you are a runner, or know a runner, or would just like to help support the team, please feel free to check out the following links.
In advance, thank you for your support!

BTW, we will be holding a recruitment drive this year, in September or October. If you have an interest in joining the team, this would be a good opportunity to meet and talk with some of the team members and get a feel for what it's all about.
