We have received a lot of requests for a compact, lighter bear canister as well as Grizzly certification. Another request was a lid that was a bit easier to open/close.

Looks like a much better design than the Garcia cans I have rented in the past. Do anybody know if these will be available for rent this summer in Yosemite and/or Whitney areas?

Typically the NPS service waits a year until there is one season of field experience with a new canister. As these are new models, that means waiting until next year.
However if you direct any questions you have about rental availability of the BearVault to the NPS they may decide to carry the BearVaults to see how they do.
The BV250 Solo is especially appropriate for the solo Mt Whitney hiker who does not need the extra capacity of the larger models.
