The opening in the top of the housing can sometimes have a sharp edge on the inside of the lip. If this is the case, take a bit of sandpaper and run it around the edge until it is smooth: this will remove any risk of cutting or scraping your hand if you drag your hand across the lip at the opening. BearVault will sand down this lip on future units to avoid this possibility.

No Kidding! Will try the sandpaper thing. That really WAS a drag ... Other that that, the can seemed to work well, even had a real-live bear in the field test ... no problems other than below:

Thanks for mentioning that. While I haven't had any problem with mine I just checked and the inner edge is sharp so I'll sand it down when I have a moment.

I really like the Bear Vault (well as much as anyone is every going to "like" a bear canister) and was only too happy to get it and sell the Garcia.
