We are planning to stay overnight in Lone Pine after a backpack trip in the Whitney area at the end of July. I am interested in any recommendations about which motels are good or not good. I have heard the Dow Villa mentioned more than once on this board. Any other good ones? Do these places fill up quickly for mid-week dates in July/August? Thanks!

I am partial to Dow Villa "Motel" since it is smack dab in the middle of Lone Pine and "tactically" located across from the Pizza Factory and adjacent to the High Sierra Cafe. Sorry, Doug Sr.

There is also the Best Western just south of the city limits.

This has been discussed a number of times, and I don't really remember anyone citing a place that they thought was really sub-standard. Folks certainly have favorites, though.

Look at the lodging section in Versatile Fred's Orientation Notes post. That gives you several links:

DFord,

The Dow Villa is an excellent place to stay along with the Best Western. The BW has some rooms with jacuzzi tubs which I'm partial to.Midweek shouldn't be a problem but book a room as soon as you are sure of your dates.Have fun.

Don't forget that the Taj Mahall (sp(?)) should be open this summer.
