Could someone recommend a guide service for going up Whitney via the Mountaineer's Route? I think I'd like to try it (as a multi-day trip, not a day hike), but would like to go with an experienced guide for the chute.

On that route, I've been as high as Upper Boy Scout Lake. Though I'm in good shape, I climb a bit slower than normal, so I'm not sure going with a group would work or not.

This is likely for next year.

Kurt Wedberg of Sierra Mountaineering International is very good. I am sure there are others, but I only have personal experience with Kurt, and can recommend him without reservation.

Cheers,

Robert

Alpine Training Service is also a good guide service that is available at most Sport Chalet stores. You can also contact them directly at:

I also have personal experience with Kurt, an outstanding mountaineer and patient teacher.

Give Sierra Mountain Center a call:

http://www.sierramountaincenter.com/

I've had experience with Todd Vogel, one of the owners (last I heard) who got me up North Palisade several years ago. I don't know if he stills hires out as a guide, but if anyone on his team is like him, you won't go wrong with this group.

I would second the previous recommendation for Sierra Mountain Center. They are headquartered in Bishop. They are one of the best and most accredited guide services with the American Mountain Guides Assoc. They regularly schedule trips for the Mountaineers route. Very competant and experianced guides.
