Looks like there are 5 current brush fires going on: one in San Diego Co., Lake Elsinore, Lake Hughes, Snow Creek (Verbenia..by Palm Springs), & one by Fresno. Sounds like some of the PCT burned between Fuller Ridge & Snow Creek. A San Jacinto ranger today told me all of the Jacinto wilderness is currently closed. Anyone know anythin' about the Fresno fire? Is it near the Sierras?

I drove to Northern California today, and the closest fire I saw to Fresno is a very large controlled burn in the southern end of Yosemite. There's another huge fire to the north. It looked like it was near Tuolumne Meadows, but I couldn't really say for sure since I didn't go up that way. I'm not sure if the northern fire is a wildfire or another controlled burn.

The one near Fresno is a little south of Shaver Lake on Hwy 168 near Cressman and Peterson Roads. It's small (about 125 acres - about 20 miles, or less, southeast of my house). It began Monday and is at about 4,600 elevation. It is not quite under control yet - but the prognosis looks good. There are also two other fires in Fresno County (near Friant/Millerton Lake and Coalinga - both of those are 100% under control). Basically, no worries mate. Enjoy your plans.
