What do most people take for food/meals? I will be backpacking and staying one night on the trail. I have heard that trail mix, beef ****y, etc. is too high in protien and should be swapped for carbs. Any suggestions? I don't want to cook.

If you wish to leave the stove home, there are options.

On a quick overnighter (no stove available) I usually mix up Carnations Breakfast drink with evaporated milk. It comes in multiple flavors and needs only water. Each package is about 8 ounces. Use two packages, about 1 cup of evaporated milk and shake in a 20 ounce water bottle. Mixes up quite nice and easy to do.

Add in some granola bars, snickers bars, milky way and other assorted candy bars and there is no need for a stove. Trail mix is ok. Crystal light or Weilers to flavor the water. Gookinaid is good for replacing electrolyte but I find it is not that tasty.

I agree with TomC..but we do enjoy a hot meal in the evening. I've not found too many dehydrated meals that are good, but I will say that we absolutely love the Mountain House Chili Mac...it is spicy and tastes great. Another good snack we like is to take wafer type crackers, some spicy EZ-Cheese (the type in the can) and some Hormel Turkey Pepperoni...mmm..it is a really good snack with lots of energy.

I like the idea of evaporated milk and Carnation instant breakfast..I'll have to try that one! smile
