uscdad,
Funny you should mention that picture...it's also one of my favorites! The main reason that I did the climb was that I wanted to get a (high) closeup look at the South Face of Cho Oyu. The weather didn't cooperate...clouds started to obscure the view at dawn. But when I saw this view to the south, I was awestruck! The lakes in the center of the picture are Six Lakes/Chou Oyu Base Camp (for the south side). The peak in the center, above the lakes is "Knobby View," a well-known trekker's viewpoint. The twin pyramids, left of center, are the Kangchung Peaks. (We attempted to climb them from the south, but were unsuccessful. Conditions on the West peak were not good and the East peak would have required a rack with at least a dozen screws, which we didn't have. You can see pictures starting here. ) The peak in the background, through the "uprights" is my other obsession, Ama Dablam. (I probably took more than fifty pictures of it. You can see some here.)
Tomi,
I've been trying to force myself to get to the task of adding captions and the story of the trip for quite a while. Maybe writing up these comments will do the trick.
Thanks Gary.
Alan,
That's cool! It's nice to know that the GPS does fairly accurate calculations.
