I left Portal at 8:30pm on Friday night and camped at near Lonepine lake, went up to trail camp on Sat morning 11:30am.
there are nobody at trail camp it was light snow and wind (10-15mph) I left for summit on 1:00pm, not even reached Trailcrest I gave it up.
as time goes by the snow and wind getting worse, by 3-4pm snow got heavier and wind got stronger.
Got back and prepare for the worst, storm came all night long, It was loooooong night.
Believe or not Sunday morning was beautiful I mean it was goreous, completely the other side of weather but i had to come down.
To borrow this Message Board i would like to apologize the guy ( his name is Owen) i met on Sat afternoon at trail camp. He was going for summit and i told him " I"ll see you summit at 6pm" but i couldn't do it, I'm sorry
It was a great experience even though i had the top of line eqipment with me but still you always prepare for the worst.

Overnight at Trail Camp? Alone? In an early-spring storm, no less? Even though you were turned back (nice decision, by the way), it sounds like quite an experience - one that many of us will never have. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

We were there Sunday 4/18 (on MR route) and yes, the day was very beautiful as we hiked in. We did hear about the storm Saturday evening as we got started but the day was so beautiful that we had high hopes for the summit! Our hopes dashed away as the next storm moved in Sunday afternoon and dumped even more snow. See my thread below. I think this second storm was little unexpected b/c every indication was that it would be partly to mostly sunny on Sunday/Monday. Oh well, it proves that mountain weather can change real quickly and if not prepared, you could get in trouble. We will try again!
