I went for a relatively long motorcycle ride today...

Onion Valley Road is marked Road Closed in 2 places, but I'd be optimistic for a pre-Memorial Day weekend opening...

Front Loader working the road at about 7800'.

Trailhead parking lot is still above a locked gate...
Campgrounds look like they'd been cleared...Ravine had a heavy equipment crew finishing up for the day...

The landslide on Horseshoe Meadows Road has been punched through...

Just past the "Campgrounds 1/2 mile" sign...

The Crossover...

Great job Richard....much apprecited for all the info.

So, it looks like next Saturday, May 27th, I might be able to drive up to Onion Valley, correct?

As for Horseshoe Meadows, I doubt the road will be open by May 27th.

Richard, for all the work you do, when I am up at the Portal next Saturday, I am going to get you a gift certificate for a Portal Hamburger...hopefully Doug allows for certificates. Or, I could get you a gift cerificate to work in the kitchen for an hour under Doug's supervision.

I was playing around with google maps this morning...
I've never understood why the 1/2 mile to campgrounds sign is there...
Google tells me they still have about 1.6 miles to the Trailhead...

I couldn't get a clear view of what was going on up the (OV) road from the Front Loader, so I don't know...Google tells me I was about 3.5 miles from the campground up there...

BTW: the Greys Campgrounds were open and the one down the road...

BTW2: DWP has a LOT of heavy equipment on Foothill Road (I wanted to ride it, but didn't want to interfere with the operations) and it looks they've cut a new road up towards Independence Peak???
