Upper gate opened today , we are open at the Portal and Hostel, sorting out the fray, will serve food starting June 26 Mask/ face coverings required now in Calif. We have made many changes as all the other opened buisnesses . We have all outside seating , and will try text /Email/ phone orders and what ever keeps the number of people in the store at a time safe, This should also allow a person to call as they drive up / call/text from the trail or email. Details will follow as the trail opens . Thanks

I was just reading that they're having good success at the Mt Hood Taco Hut using semaphore. As long as people remember to sanitize the flags between uses...

Not only can you call ahead and order food while on the road, I remember the night I was coming down the main trail realizing I would not get to the store before the grill closed, I turned on my cell phone, called the store, placed an order and was greeted with a yummy burger and fries waiting on the counter. Happy girl! Thanks, Doug! 😀🍔

I don't have a cell phone, so I'll place my orders via Steller's jay.

Anyone hear anything about reopening the entire Horseshoe Meadow Road? Don't want to leave the truck parked on the road at the gate for two weeks.

I tried that before, but the order went straight into the trash can out front...

Doug, were you wearing a blue "Mt. Whitney" shirt and taking a quick stroll in the parking lot yesterday afternoon/evening? I was going to say hi and ask you to sign my "Mount Whitney Guide" book, but thought it might not have been a good idea given the current circumstances.

Doug Sr.

What are the cafe hours this Friday (26th), as we are considering doing breakfast at ~7:00am and then hiking to Lone Pine Lake. Is this part of the trail open officially? How about Unofficially?

Ugh the heat that is coming.....

Stopping by to check out the area in preparation for some future camping/hiking hopefully to the top! Last time I was at the portal campgrounds was.....~50 years ago!

Hiked up to Lone Pine Lake on June 20. Beautiful and uncrowded, highly recommend. There were no signs posted re closure, so we went for it.
