That one is probably beyond me, although I've seen an amazing number of folks doing it - and just about every other grade there is to be found in Colorado. I recall driving Timber Ridge Road once and seeing more bikes than cars over about a five mile stretch - at the 11K level. The state has got to be the most biked per capita in the nation. I swear, there are more bikes than autos on the Boulder roads in the summer, as well as a really high percentage of trails in the area that allow bikes.

Just thinking about Colorado gets me jonesing for another trip out there. Rocky Mountain NP is one of my favorites, and I've been to just about every major NP in the lower 48. I celebrated my 50th birthday a couple of years ago by dragging my aching butt up Long's Peak, second only to Whitney on my personal "What Was I Thinking?" list of grueling dayhikes. Overnighters are more my speed now. I think I'm past the point physically of pedaling a bike up that kind of mountain. Breezing down, however, is another thing . . .

Fuji Guy:

If you want to get behind petitioning for MB access to a really great road/trail in a NP, look at The Colony Mill Road in Sequoia.

Originally the only road to the Giant Forest, it was built by a utopian society who wanted to live in the wilderness & fell/mill redwoods. It is road-width most of the way. Not often hiked.

Distance is ca. 11 miles one way, 4000' gain.

Note: MBs are allowed in some NPs, ie. Joshua Tree.

Been done... at least part of it... NOT BY ME... Early spring during one of the drought years, I saw two mountain bikers flying down the lower portion of the trail.

11 years later, and yes... coronavirus, and some still want to gather in crowds, practice with a dozen team mates, visit family members, and ignore that the rest of us don't want anyone else getting sick, as well as our own families... what was that about mountian bikes :-)

Huh. Apparently I’ve met Richard P. And the trail really is fun to ride. So I hear.

as you know Gary, I lived on Maui, in Paia for several years, and my home was right next to Baldwin, the road the bicyclists ride down. It wasn't uncommon for an ambulance to go up Baldwin to help a bike rider that had crashed, especially since they were tired and near the bottom. And, every once in a while, a fatality...
