No snow , temps above normal ,but this still means cold nights and water is freezing at the water crossings.
They were dreamers or the VC said handing out permits as walk ins CHECK before you make the journey!!!!!!

PCT hikers coming in to finishing the sections they jumped in the spring and yesterday we had a car drop off to start the JMT from the north , Take pictures was our advice if they get snowed in they will help others that want to start this late.

Beras walking around now crossed the road at the campground yesterday about 9 :30 AM and we have tracks on our back steps so store your food and packs and clean out your vehicle' Bobcat around LP campground also and Deer most days around the Portal/Campground

We don't have a closing date yet but we don't want to be a repeat of the Shining.

The best way to find that dame is to keep making up fake accounts---and saying you're in France, or Croatia, when you're really in Pasadena. Kinda creepy in a creepy stalking way, but I guess if it were in this thread it would be okay. ("Heeeeeeeerrrrreeee's Stalky!")

We closed today for the season will start doing the drill pack everything up and take to the Hostel, Water shut off yesterday AM and campground closed ,as of today gates are open on the Portal Road.
Will do a 15 or 20 page update on will they stock the pond , where is the bathroom with mapping and the trailhead is still not there but over here now when is was over there before. I just wanted to pick up my permit , Excuse me they said I needed clampons, and I have food in the car, I plan to take most out but want to leave the nuts in the car ...
Plan to see a solid turnout for Shins 600 Dec 15 on Baldy Thinking we have just show up, hike to the Ski Hut or summit but all meet at the lodge for snacks!!!! after the hike??

Thanks everyone for another great year. The Portal Crew.

Looking forward to the 15-20 page update. Will that be available in paperback? Who will write the Forward? And the Backward? Can I get that on Amazon and if so how much do you think it will cost after taxes shipped to a small, unchartered island in the Pacific? And does it have the weather for 2020?

The TV was on, and I heard the word. (No, not of God, but close.)

I had to go back and listen again.

Could it possibly be?

The only solution was to put on the subtitles and pray that what I heard was correct.

Lo, and behold. The word was spoken, and it was good...

A short storm yesteday andmelt today snow levelis about 7000' Lone Pine Campground is open NO WATER it stays open well half of the campground year round.

Old trail is a great winter hike in the shade once you enter the canyon and can be cold icy in sections. I most often leave the trail in the Portal Campground and take the road to the trailhead.

WEBCAM is up so check the coverage ( using a old ACER computer and windows 7 if sales are good next year we might upgrade! the keys are sticking and texts shows like in a time warp )

Thank you. It was beautiful at the Lone Pine campground with some snow patches here and there. We are still trying to figure out what paws are these? Happy Thanksgiving Dough and everyone else.

Ok so the upper gate was locked yesterday about 1 PM and this current system moved into the area very late last night, light rain in town , but dry this AM snow level about 6000'. From reports north snow on the ground just north of Indypendence and chain control on the valley floor.
Strong wind over the ridges and down canyon winds off and on so expect drifts at all elevations in the Whitney area.

Have a great Holiday I went out for a while yesterday and wished I had a jacket and snacks!

It's nice and warm down in Pearsonville. I just bought a place there, on the west side of the highway.
