So, Doug, has the water been turned on at the Portal? Are you cooking?

I'll be up there starting Sunday, May 19th for a week.

Do you happen to you know when the campground will be opened and when there will be water there? I have a couple of very inexperience friends with permits for this Thursday. I tried to change their minds but they are going to try to summit regardless.

Well, at least the campground is open.

I was going to come up on Sunday, but it appears that rain is in the forecast. Then I see that Tuesday may be an issue also. Another Memorial Weekend....rain and snow?

Luckily, I have a campsite reserved starting Thursday so that may be the day I drive up.

I see that Horseshoe Meadows road is still closed, and last week there was still significant snow at Onion Valley.

Lone Pine Lake would be the only reasonable hike.

Just received an email from Recreation.Gov regarding water at the Portal Campground.

".....There is a temporary water outage at Whitney Portal. Water will be provided in containers only. You may contact the facility for further information....."

I wonder what the problem is, and do they have a remedy?

Well Doug, I'll be heading up soon and am I not bringing any food for dinner or breakfast, hoping that you are cooking at the store. Yes?

Oh, I have a new book for you that I just purchased from Chessler Books. It's "Mount Whitney Guide For Hikers and Climbers." It's a first edition, 1990, by Paul Hellweg and Scott McDonald.

See you in a few days.

Oh, do you have the heat on in the store? I hear that it's been really cold up at the Portal.

Hey Paul I just talked to Earlene ,she recalled the Book and thinks it may have a first printing or we got a draft and the cover shot was reversed. Keller was on the North side of Whitney.
