Just got off the phone with "Allison" at the Inter-Agency Visitor Center. There are now additional dayhike permits available for Sunday, September 27th. The weather's shaping up to be pretty phenomenal this weekend with mild temps both at the Portal and up top, and with the added benefit of a full moon.
Unfortunately, due to unexpected family circumstances, I won't be able to head up the mountain this year. Of course, Whitney ain't goin' nowhere, and I will definitely be back. Very sorry I won't be able to say hello to the Portal Crew, too. There's always next year ... and the year after ... and the year after that. It is indeed a special place.
