How many boxes are there? I last did the hike four years ago and there were only two and they were packed. Luckily I was able to squeeze in my small cooler. - Dave

There are several different parking areas for dayhikers and I believe that each has bear lockers. We parked in the lot closest to the store (mid-week) and there were several bear lockers near the bathrooms and there was plenty of room in the bear lockers for our stuff (large box and small cooler).

Ok, I have resisted the urge to respond to this for several days now......

The boxes really are not large enough to accommodate hikers

clank

boom!

Seriously,, the parking areas at the portal have bear boxes, though at this time of year they tend to get packed.

I heard that Tom S used one once as an emergency shelter while waiting for the rest of a SAR Team to get back to the Portal...
