nativensd: Apologies for not responding to your PM a few weeks ago...July was a very busy month for me and I didn't get online much and most of my messages got buried by other stuff. Glad you found a buddy to hike with, and best wishes for your hike...may your first attempt be more successful than mine was last year!!
TomDietz and karthik: I have a day permit for Aug 26 with a couple openings. I am fine with the loose partner concept - any party may go faster, slower, or bail out whenever they want. My current plan is to acclimitize in Yosemite a few days prior (Mt. Dana hike from 10K to 13K) and leave the Portal probably by 2AM.
