We are going to try to get a spot at Horseshoe meadows the Tuouesday night June 22nd. I noticed that there are only 10 campsites available. Are there any other campsites near Horseshoe that you guys would recommend, if they are full??

Any where in Lone Pine where bear lockers/bear proof containers can be rented??

I know you can rent bear cannisters at the Vistor Center in Lone Pine. I think Doug also rents them both at his Hostel in LP as well as at the Portel.

As for camping at Horseshoe Meadows - I live nearby so it's not an issue for me - am sure someone will respond.

Yes. Cottonwood Lakes trailhead, about a mile away, has another 10, and between, the Cottonwood Lakes Equestrian campground, which I've never seen 1/2 full.

There are at least 3 individual campgrounds in Horseshoe Meadow. Cottonwood Lake, Equestrian and Cottonwood Pass. Cottonwood Lakes and the Equestrian are really much nicer than Cottonwood Pass. I think Cottonwood Pass has about 60 campsites. I've only camped there once. I've never had a problem finding a campsite in Horseshoe Meadow.

All have running water, toilets and bear boxes.

There are a zillion locations to stealth camp out of Horseshoe - either Cottonwood Pass or Trail Pass. If you head up Trail Pass you'll come to a seasonal stream about 15 minutes after crossing the meadow. Water up and backtrack a few hundred yards until you find level ground.

I've never seen any of those campsites full before, and I've been there a bit. You shouldn't have any problem especially on a Tuesday night.

As of June 12th, there was no running water yet.

As mentioned, you can rent bear canisters from the Visitor's center where you can pick up your permits (if needed). There are bear boxes at the campgrounds at Horseshoe Meadows.
