We climbed the Mountaineers Route on Monday; camped at Upper Boy Scout Lake Sunday and Monday nights. Be careful of the spring snow conditions - the runoff is melting the snow from underneath and several times it suddenly collapsed out from under me. Soft, slushy snow and post-hole conditions are the best ways to describe the hike up. We left camp at 6 am and the snow was firm, but had not frozen overnight and quickly turned soft as soon as the sun hit it. We used crampons in the couloir and stayed on dry rock as much as possible, which was about a third of the way up. Conditions above the notch were fine - the only snow on the route was the last 200 feet of steep (70 degrees, I'm guessing) soft snow. We cramponed up that last bit, which was the scariest part of the day for me, except or maybe the down climbing of that same bit. The scrambling was not as exposed as I was expecting - down climbing the Ebensbacher ledges felt way more sketchy for me.
