Hello, I am a worker at the Whitney Portal Hostel & Store and have had many calls looking for more specific information on what we have to offer here. Things are constantly changing here at the Hostel so I thought I'd give y'all a little update before the summer madness starts up.
Each of our 12 rooms include: four to ten beds, a private full bathroom, clean linens, and soap. There is also free limited wi-fi throughout the building, a partial kitchen area with storage space, refrigerators, microwave, free coffee or tea, and a lobby/store for socializing, reading, T.V. in some rooms, etc...
For those who don't have time to stay and just want a quick shower, we offer public showers for $5 which include a fresh towel and soap. These are maintained and cleaned every day.
*Curent Rates* Special now per private room (4 beds total)|Reg. $74.95 Special now per bed (shared) |Reg. $22.32
We are located just a couple buildings south of the only stoplight in town (Whitney Portal Road), right on main street (U.S. 395). 238 S. Main Street Lone Pine, CA 93545
Any other questions? just give us a call at: (760) 876-0030 or drop an e-mail at WPHostel@Gmail.com or a reply on this thread and we'll be glad to help.
SEVEN DAY CANCEL NOTICE REQUIRED AS WE FILL MOST EVERY NIGHT AND ROOMS WOULD SET EMPTY. NOT HAVING A PLACE TO OFFER OTHER GUEST . THINK OF THE TIRED TRAVELER OR THE HIKERS COMING OFF THE TRAILS NEEDING A PLACE TO SLEEP. Thanks Doug

of course, you have to share it with g-ig-Mike.
sorry...
ps. the Hostel is awesome. What a great place to meet new friends and Whitney Family! I think it is going to get better year by year.... after many seasons hanging there, occasionally, I think it is the BEST in the Sierra!
some local school kids to do the laundry and check-in, Moosie to help you with trip info and the knarly old dude to keep your motor running.. burgers, fries and Pancakes.. (sorry DOUG. ... I am almost as old as U...) what a great experience... Hope to top-out 2wice again this year... would make #19 I think... Sorry Bob R... I don't keep too good a record.. but I know how many I do each year.... so far in 2010 it is 3! (and 3 good ones..) I would really like to do 3 new ones this year...
that would be cool, with the guys from Turkey.... Polmonium on the back side! And Sill lthe same day from the East! Maybe find my old axe up there from 2006.. Mike, If I find it, you can have it and you owe me $100. cheers, MLM

Hey Doug. Saintsfan74 just logged in as # 14490. How about a reward, a burger, beer, whatever for whoever reaches #14,500 for convenience sake & approximately the Mt Whitney height. Or you could reward the person who hits the accepted altitude for Mt Whitney, whatever it is now. AND no fair Richard P registering again or even under an assumed name, just to win. Other than hitting the magic number the person HAS to claim the prize at the Whitney Portal Store.

Hi I was looking over the thread #'s the other day and thought 10,000 should get some kind of award, so yes member 14,497 should get a Tee shirt, beer and Portal Burger. And as a bonus we can make the winner the contact person for the elevation questions?
So when the lucky person joins and the number is 14497 give me a call 760 920 2178 or email whitnestor and we can set up the details. Thanks Doug
