OK, Steve C. explained this to me last Oct. at the memorial hike cookout, but I've forgotten the details. Is it true that if you have a one night permit for the MT you can actually stay out for 14 days/nights? ---- thanks john
Hi john...found this for ya..steve will tell you more when he wakes up..
"Overnight Permit: A wilderness permit issued for a multiple day period. Inyo National Forest will issue overnight permits for up to 14 contiguous days".
The Main Trail permit quota is based on your entry date. You can have them adjust the exit date when you pick up the permit.
"Trail Crest Exit" quota is the only Sierra quota that I'm aware of based on exit rather than entry date. I think they're fairly flexible if you hit it a day or two early or late. (Presuming anyone ever checks your permit)
