I know - just more proof the world makes no sense! laugh

I know my adventure is just beginning. In a few years, I'll have a partner to hike with, paddle with, and enjoy the beautiful outdoors and all this world has to offer.

My role model for parent/child interaction is Kent Ashcraft. I can't tell you how many times I smiled when reading his reports about taking his kids and their friends hiking. So you see, Kent still lives on, as an example to those who could only wish to be half the parent, leader, and friend that he was to his family and friends.

Thanks Kent...

I’ve posted some preliminary photos on one of the forums I visit often (so ignore the smart comments!), but this will give you a good glance at little Kai and Mommy:

And the blow by blow on Twitter:

Enjoy the Spring my Mount Whitney friends - I've already got a little backpack with the kid seat in the top of it! (Good for me because I have to lose all this sympathetic pregnancy weight I gained!)

Regards..
Chris

Hi, Chris. Great pics! And congratulations to you and your nice wife. Kent is a great model for you, its just too bad we don't have the Sierras or the Rockies in our back yard, like our California friends (I live in Raleigh, NC). Anyhow, I wish you and your son the best in your future trekking adventures.

Congratulations, Beachy!

We'll look forward to reading about your adventures with the little guy. All I can say is to take every opportunity you can to spend time with him and get him out and up. Those years will fly by all too quickly and you'll be looking back on them like many of us do now. Wouldn't trade them for anything!

Starting 'em out young works and kids will amaze you at just how much they can do if you learn to take things at their pace and enjoy the time together. Then you hit the point where they start to out-pace you and you're eating their dust...then it gets to be even more fun. Trouble is, about the time you've raised a halfway decent pack horse, they want to take off on their own...but that's what it really is all about...hard as it may be to watch them take off and go on their own, you realize maybe some of those lessons along the way really did sink in and help them become their own person.

Best of luck, give your wife and Kai hugs from all of us out here in the ether...

Well done Chris and Marissa. And welcome Kai. And don't worry, the Southern Appalachians are a great training ground for the Sierra. ---- John

All the best, Chris and Marisa! Just like my nephew, you can start teaching them ice axe skillz at 6 months!

Best of luck and love,

Good thing I wasn't drinking anything, cuz it would've come out of my nose when I read this!! Something about a 6-month old wielding an ice axe struck my funny bone!
