Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Winter Access Forum Mt Russell

I am thinking of climbing Mt. Russell over Easter. I am looking for any beta you guys might have. I climbed the Mountaineer's route up Whitney last december and that was no problem. I thought Russell might be a good step up.

Good luck with that. I'll be interested in hearing how that goes and what the conditions are like up there as I'm looking to try it out in a little while...

Hey Josh,
I was planning to head up there Friday and it sounds like the normal route is inaccessible due to snow and ice and you will need to gain the ridge proper and do some 5th class climbing. This is based on a thread I posted over on SP as well as some emails exchanged with people I know in the area.

It sounds doable, but you need to be prepared to climb more technical terrain than you would in the summer.
