A couple of photos just to show what the leading edge of this this is doing to the Sierra:

I can't remember the last time I saw this much spindrift coming off of Whitney.

I think Russell is trying to make itself look like an active Orizaba Jr.

Needless to say, I zeroed (no summits) this weekend.

Richard - that shot, and the web-cam photos from today, are really impressive. Reminiscent of the plume you see on many Everest shots.

I wonder if anyone was up there today?

I can attest that there is snow below 4,000 feet in the Owens Valley today.

Richard--excellent photos--thanks for posting for us in LA that wonder what is happening on Whitney.

I really think you should consider becoming a professional mountain photographer, especially after seeing the photos you took of our Orizaba trip.

It's just better in the mountains

We got snow well below 1000' this morning in the bay area. I can only imagine how it must have felt above 14,000'...brrrr.

Obnoxiously delicious!

Thanks Lori. I learned a long time ago that it's hard to document a climb if you don't force yourself to pull the camera out lot.

(And a short story:) In my late teens, I wanted to be another Galen Rowell (I figured it would be the easy way to get invited on expeditions and in those days, you had to be invited.) and actually took some art and photography classes in college. It didn't take more than the first group presentation to realize that there are a lot of artists/photographers out there who are a lot more talented than I am.

It is a fun hobby and it feels good when people enjoy the work.

I couldn't agree more Richard.

And Galen was one of the best!
