From time to time we read about the book Mountain lore from the Whitney Portal store. It is invaluable for preparing to hike to Mount Whitney. As one who has been to the area a moderate amount I found it very refreshing. It has all kind of interesting experiences, helpful advice, and good history of the area....a must for first timers and even helpful for others who think they know what to do. I got it a few months back and am sure glad I did. Well worth it.

The portal store book is not like a regular climbing book, just full of details. It has all kinds of personality and you feel like you are reading a note from a friend. I learned a lot about being prepared to go up Whitney, many things I had not learned from being there. A great place to start your research about the mountain and what it will be like.
