Hi everyone.

Quick question: I'm hoping to do a MMWT day hike on Monday (9/14). How likely am I to get a permit for 2 people if I walk in to the Lone Pine Ranger station at around 2pm on Sunday? As I understand it, unclaimed permits become available around noon... Any thoughts from you Whitney veterans??

Thanks!

I believe that permits become available at 11:00 AM. I would try to be there by then. Call the Lone Pine Multi-Agency Visitor Center to be sure.
I have climbed Whitney 3 times and each time got my permit as a walk in - never with a reservation. This was on 3 attempts.

You have a good chance. On a recent post there were 31 available for last Sunday (before Labor Day). Cancellations become available at 11 am and no-shows become available at 2 pm.
