A buddy and I recently completed the JMT (11.5 days, phew!) and are itching to get back up into the mountains already. We are looking to do a 3 day trip that was fairly moderate on mileage but would give us access to some decent fishing. I was really fond of Le Conte canyon, and I was wondering if anyone might have any advice on a three day out/back or loop in that area? Many thanks for your tips!

Copper Creek Trail from Roads end in Ceder Grove to Granite Lakes Monarch divide. good Fishing and not alot of people.

It'a hump to get out of the canyon, but since you basically Ran the JMT, you shouldn't have any problems. Just get an early start, it gets Death Valley hot quick....

Why Yes, I am crazy. I'm just not stupid.

Wasn't sure how much time you wanted to spend:

A little lower--Out of Mineral Kings are many choices--Sawtooth Trail to Monarch or Crystal lakes--peak bag sawtooth, needham and mineral peak.

Alta peak out of Lodgepole is a nice non-technical route--beautiful area

It's just better in the mountains

North Lake over Lamarck Col to Evolution, then north on JMT over Muir Pass to Leconte, then exit over Dusy/Bishop Pass to South Lake. Do this as a 2 nighter as you seem to be fast, 3 nights if you want to fish.

did you know the NPS is actively netting trout to exterminate them from high lakes in SEKI? Trout were introduced, therefore are alien species to the area. Harvey

Harvey,
Thank you very much for your response! I'm thinking a three nighter so we have some time to mellow out and enjoy the area. Your proposed itinerary looks great. And I was entirely unaware of the trout factoid. Have a great week!

Another good one from the west side at Roads End is to go up Bubbs Creek to East Lake and Lake Reflection. Good fishing and great scenery.
