Annual Aug-17 run, celebrating birthday 43.
Very enjoyable conditions, although the rocky sections nearby the JMT intersection were very icy in the morning. Only a few small patches of snow on the last 400m to the summit. Plenty of water on the switchbacks.
Relatively warm throughout the run. Wore Cool-Max tank-top up to Trail Camp and a thin Patagonia shirt to the summit and back to Trail Camp.
As usual, all of the hikers were very pleasant and polite. Many thanks to the birthday wishes throughout the hike, and especially to the group of hikers that sang "Happy Birthday" at 14,000ft.
Run Stats:
Arrived Lone Pine from sea-level home (SF Bay Area) on Aug-15 pm. Started run Aug-17 at ~5:50am and finished ~11:25am. Running time was ~4:50 (other time spent socializing or waiting for toilets). Drank 4-5 times 8oz of water from running bottle (filled on switchbacks). No food on run. Prior to the run, drank 800 calories of Ultrafuel, 32oz of water, and ate 2 chocolate Powerbars. Night before, loaded on Pizza, raviola, chicken wings, and whatever else was not nailed down.
Looking forward to next year!
