It's probably me and the late hour, but I can't make out anything on the CREST website regarding ANYTHING? hello? (I'l try calling them, later)

I need some simple answers as I have a Japanese friend, who speaks very little english and I am trying to see if a crest bus, down 395 to L.A. would be easier than his idea of jumping off the JMT at Florence Lake (on 7.21) and thumbing to Fresno to catch a southbound AMTRAK.

Having worked at the VVR and thumbed out of there a few times, but only as far as Prather, I know how hard it is to get a ride that far, not to mention getting from there into Fresno, to the AMTRAK stop, especially when you don't speak much english.

Besides, if he has to wait a day or so in Bishop or Lone Pine, that's much better than sitting in Fresno, right???

Anyway, anyone taken the Crest to L.A. ???? thanks, bob

CREST has changed to Eastern Sierra Transit Authority - see web page at
http://easternsierratransitauthority.com/wb/
Bus runs southbound only MWF. Possible to take the bus from Bishop 9:15 a.m. or Lone Pine at 10:25 a.m. to Lancaster Greyhound/Metrolink station by 12:55, then take the Metrolink train to Union Station LA.

Florence Lake and Edison Lake are practically dead zones for traffic in and out. Your friend is going to get far more hitch-hiking opportunities on the east side. Actually Prather would not be too bad, quite a bit of traffic down to Fresno there.

But getting across Fresno to the downtown Amtrak or Greyhound stations would be a challenge. There IS a public bus system, though, so it would be possible. If he DOES come this way, give him my phone number: 559-281-5983. I'll see that he gets across town.

Thanks Jwest and SteveC.

I'm much more fond of 395 and considering him a tourist, I'd much rather see him head down 395. Not to forget that it's so much easier to get to than, Fresno.

THanks for the revised bus route info––I will definitely pass it on and encourage him. You gotta love Fresno, but it's no tourist destination and the times that I was stuck there, I did not enjoy it. Nice to be in LP or Bishop, where maybe a direction from a stranger might go something like, "well, you cross the street over there and, you're there!"

If he's still crazy enough to want to try heading out of Florence, well, I'll get him in touch with you. THANKS MUCH.

Thanks for the update. I corrected a few dead links in the Orientation Notes.
